Over 20 OTT Apps Including ALTT, ULLU App Banned By Government for Obscene Content

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) of the Government of India has taken a major decision to ban 25 mobile apps. These apps are alleged to be spreading obscene and objectionable content and violating the IT Act and other laws.

Over 20 OTT Apps Have Been Banned

The apps that have been banned are: ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hit Prime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchal App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, ShowHit, Fugi, Mojflix and Triflicks.

Why Have Restrictions Been Imposed?

According to the government, these apps were serving obscene and inappropriate content on digital platforms, which was having a negative impact on society. These apps were operating without censorship or regulation, which was in violation of the IT Act 2000 and other cyber laws.

What are the Allegations Against these Apps?

These apps are accused of displaying obscene videos and obscene series, targeting underage users, providing content without age verification, violating data protection and privacy laws, violating IT laws and the Information Transfer Act.

Why This Step is Important?

Nowadays, most of the content going viral on social media is inspired by such obscene series. It easily reaches children and young adults. These series are being released on digital platforms without censorship.This step was necessary to prevent mental and moral degradation in the society.

What will Happen Now?

These apps will be removed from the Play Store and App Store. Strict action will be taken against platforms that do not follow the law.According to the government, clean and healthy content will be prioritized in the digital world.
