Indian Railways New Rules: Aadhaar-based OTP Verification has been made Mandatory for Tatkal Ticket Booking

Railways has taken a big decision to make Tatkal ticket booking transparent and secure. From 15th July, Aadhaar-based OTP verification has been made mandatory for Tatkal ticket booking.
Indian Railways New Rules Regarding Ticket Booking
Indian Railways has taken a big decision. Make a new rule regarding tatkal ticket booking. This new rule will implemented from 15th July to make Tatkal ticket booking transparent and secure. Now Aadhaar-based OTP verification has been made mandatory for Tatkal ticket booking. This new rule will be applicable to both online and offline ticket bookers. That is, while booking tickets instantly through the IRCTC website or mobile app, now the passenger will have to provide the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to Aadhaar. This rule is applicable for Tatkal booking of all AC and Non-AC categories.
As per the reports, Tatkal tickets for AC class (1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC) can be booked from 10:00 AM one day before the journey. While for non-AC class (Sleeper, 2nd class) Tatkal tickets can be booked from 11:00 AM one day before the journey.
Aadhaar OTP Required to Book Tickets
After the new rules implemented from 15th July, now if any passenger books a ticket through a computerized PRS counter or authorized agent, Aadhaar OTP verification will be required.
The passenger will have to provide his Aadhaar number and registered mobile number. The ticket will be issued only after OTP verification. To book a ticket on IRCTC, your profile needs to be authenticated with Aadhaar. If this is not done, you will not be able to book the ticket.
How to Link your Aadhaar?
- First log in to the IRCTC website or IRCTC Rail Connect app.
- Click on My account.
- Then click on Authenticate User and complete the process.
Change in Booking Timings
IRCTC has changed the booking timings for Authorized Agents from July 1, 2025. Authorized agents will no longer be able to book AC class tickets between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM. Similarly, non-AC class bookings will not be possible between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.
Railway Fares to Increase from this Month
Indian Railways has increased the fares of premium and special trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Duronto, Mahamana, Gitman, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome, Panvanya from July 1.
