The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to two leading cab booking firms, Ola and Uber, for allegedly exploiting customers. Ola and Uber Showing Different Fairs for Android and iPhone Models!
Consumer Affairs Minister Prahallad Joshi said that his department has taken the matter seriously. The CCPA has been asked to investigate the allegations. The complainant stated that Ola and Uber are showing higher fares on certain phone models and lower fares on other phone models.
Ola and Uber have been asked to explain the reasons on which they are doing so. The two companies have been asked to explain why they are showing different fares when booking on Android and on iPhone to travel to the same destination. Mr. Joshi said that the government will not tolerate the exploitation of consumers.
The issue came to a head in December last year. After a person shared the screenshot on social media, the debate escalated. After the post went viral, Uber deleted it. Fares may vary depending on factors such as pick-up location, probable arrival time or drop-off location, the company said. There are also complaints that regular bookings are being overcharged. A man booked a trip from MP city to Raja Bhoj airport on Android phone in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal city, showing a fare of Rs.301-310. While booking on iPhone for the same trip, the fare showed Rs 322-368. Once again when trying to book, the fare showed higher on android phone.
