After a humiliating defeat by 4-0 in five-match T20 series played between India and England, Team India is now eyeing a three-match ODI series. The first ODI between India and England is scheduled to be played on July 14 in Birmingham. The Indian team has a great chance to avenge the T20 series defeat, although it will not be easy to beat England on their home soil.
Indian batsmen struggled to score runs in the T20 series. Meanwhile, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah has brought about a significant change in the bowling attack.The team will now be strengthened with the return of senior players for the three-match ODI series. Harshit Rana suffered an injury in the T20 series that ruled him out of the playing XI and Prince Yadav is likely to take his place in the ODIs.
England vs India ODI 2026
The Indian team management will aim to field a strong playing XI for the one-day matches. As a result, some key players are expected to miss out.
- Rohit Sharma will be seen opening the innings alongside skipper Gill. Virat Kohli will come in to bat at number three. He will be followed by Shreyas Iyer, who was the highest run-scorer in the T20 series, at number four.
- Experienced batsman and wicketkeeper KL Rahul is set to return to the team at number five; his return means Ishan Kishan will have to sit out.
- All-rounders Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar are likely to get a chance in the one-day match. Meanwhile, renowned spinner Kuldeep Yadav is set to return to Team India, which could see all-rounder Shivam Dube dropped from the playing XI.
- Jasprit Bumrah’s blistering yorker is likely to trouble the England batsmen. Arshdeep Singh will share the bowling duties with Bumrah, while Prince Yadav or the Prasidh Krishna will be given a chance.
