SBI Warns Customers! Be Aware of Fraudsters or You will Get Scammed

State Bank of India (SBI) has warned its customers about a new type of mobile number change fraud. The bank has issued a warning saying that fraudsters are trying to change the registered mobile number of the customer and link it with their own number.

How do Fraudsters Scam You?

  • Fraudsters call or send SMS to the customer saying ‘Your PPO (Pension Payment Order) is pending verification’ or ‘Inform immediately for speedy processing.’
  • They often threaten that if information is not provided immediately, your pension will be withheld. –
  • They send the customer a link and ask them to click on it.
  • They try to obtain personal information like username, password, ATM PIN and OTP etc.
  • Remember Banks never verify PPOs via phone, SMS, link, or ATM visit.

Ways to Stay Safe from Fraudster

  • Never share your personal or financial information with anyone.
  • Only download banking apps from the Google Play Store or App Store.
  • In case of any doubt, contact the nearest branch or call customer care number 18001234/18002100.
  • For cyber crime complaints, call 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in.
  • Read SMS and email alerts carefully and do not click on any suspicious links.
  • Registered mobile number is the key to the security of your bank account, keep it safe.

SBI’s Message:

The bank has clarified that if the call starts with 1600, then it is genuine and safe. There is no risk in answering such calls. SBI has requested customers to be alert, stay safe and protect themselves from any kind of fraud.
