Netflix New Updates: Some Devices will no Longer Support the Netflix App from June 2

Big news for Netflix users. Netflix has decided to discontinue its service on certain Amazon Fire TV devices starting June 2, 2025. According to this decision, the first-generation Amazon Fire TV (2014), Fire TV Stick (2014), and Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2016) will no longer support the Netflix app from June 2. The Netflix app will not run on these devices and users will not be able to watch any of its content.
Some Devices will no Longer Support the Netflix App
Netflix has not issued an official statement regarding the reasons for this decision, but industry experts say it is related to new streaming technologies, particularly the AV1 codec. This codec provides high-quality video at low bandwidth, but older Fire TV devices don’t support it. These devices launched in 2014 and are currently not receiving software or security updates, making them unable to meet Netflix’s new quality standards.
Check your Device Model and Upgrade it to Use Netflix App
Amazon has notified users of these affected devices via email. If you are using one of these devices, you can check your model on Amazon’s official support page. Netflix will be available on many other devices, such as Roku, Android TV, smart TVs, and gaming consoles. Users are advised to upgrade to newer devices, such as the Fire TV Stick 4K or 4K Max, which support the new video and audio standards. This change only affects certain older Amazon devices. Netflix services will continue to function normally on all other devices. Users should prepare to upgrade their devices before this date.
