India is witnessing a significant price reduction after the implementation of the new GST slabs on September 22, 2025, the first day of Navratri. As part of the major GST changes, changes have been made to the GST on vehicles and residential properties. The change has not only benefited car buyers but has also significantly changed the list of the most affordable cars in the country. These changes are effective from September 22, 2025.
The biggest changes since the implementation of the GST law have been approved – These changes are seen as the biggest changes since the implementation of GST in 2017. By creating higher tax slabs for luxury and non-essential goods, and reducing rates on essential goods, healthcare and housing, the government aims to simplify the system and reduce costs for families.
- It will be easier to build a house from now on. Cement will be available at a cheaper price from today. The tax rate on cement, a key construction material, has been reduced from 28% to 18%.
- Large vehicles like buses, trucks and ambulances also come under the 18% slab – the tax rate on small vehicles has also been reduced. Motorcycles, three-wheelers and small cars with a capacity of less than 350 CC will now be subject to 18% GST instead of 28.
- Auto parts, which were previously subject to different rates, will now be taxed at a single rate. GST on all auto parts will be 18%. Motorcycles above 350 CC and aircraft for personal use will attract 40% GST. 40% GST will be imposed on all cars with petrol engines above 1200 CC and diesel engines above 1500 CC.
- After the implementation of the new GST slab, the Maruti S-Presso has become the most affordable car in the country. Cars like Alto K10, Kwid, Tiago and Celerio are also now available for less than Rs 5 lakh. If you are looking to buy a new car within your budget, then now is the right time.
