Annual FASTag Pass: Now you can Travel Unlimited Times Through Toll Gates

To reduce the toll burden on vehicle owners using the highways, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is considering introducing an annual pass for FASTag. The pass will be available for Rs 3,000. Through it, one can travel unlimited times through toll gates. As a result, the anxiety that people have every time they go to the toll gate, whether there is balance in the FASTag or whether it will work, will be eliminated.
The ministry is preparing a plan in which vehicle owners will be given two options. They will be asked whether they want to pay a toll based on the distance of highway use or to take an annual pass. The annual pass will be given to private vehicle owners. Those who do not opt for the annual pass will have to pay a distance-based fee, i.e. Rs 50 per 100 km. The modified system will replace the currently in force toll system. A few months ago, the government had rejected a proposal to levy a toll of Rs 30,000 for 15 years. However, the new policy being prepared by the government now includes a plan to abolish toll booths.
Instead, a sensor-based digital toll system will be implemented. This new system will be implemented by combining GPS and automatic vehicle tracking systems. There has been a long-standing discussion about implementing a satellite-based toll system in the country. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari has spoken about this many times. He also said that there will be no more toll booths on highways in future. After the implementation of the FASTag system in the country, although the waiting time of vehicles at toll plazas has been reduced compared to the previous system, there is still congestion at many places. However, there has been a huge improvement in toll collection.
