When will 5 Over Matches be Played in IPL?
Most IPL matches start at 7:30 PM. The toss will be held at 7 PM. If there is continuous rain during this period, the match is played in the minimum number of overs and the result is decided. It often happens that in a match, one team bats first and plays 20 overs, then the rain starts. At this point, to determine the outcome of the match, the rule is that the other team has to bat for at least 5 overs, otherwise the match is considered abandoned.
- According to the Duckworth-Lewis method, the team batting second is given a new target. If the rain does not stop during the match and the match is not completed, then both teams are awarded one point each.
- On the other hand, if there is continuous rain from the start of the match, then the result is decided after playing at least 5 overs. The cut-off time for a 5 overs match in any IPL match is 10:56. In addition, an additional hour is given to complete the match.
- An extension window has been given until midnight to complete the match. If rain continues during this time, the match will be called off and both teams will be awarded one point each. The same rules will be applied in the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore match to be held on Saturday in IPL 2025.
