New ATM Rules 2025: Charges will Have to be Paid for Balance Checks

ATM services have become expensive in the country. In a major decision, banks have increased their ATM transaction charges. In addition, banks have increased the free ATM usage limit. This new rule of the bank has come into effect from May 1. Banks have implemented revised ATM charges as per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

New ATM Rules 2025

  • With this move by banks, cash withdrawals from ATMs after the free transaction limit have become expensive. According to the new rules, customers will have to pay charges for all services, be it cash withdrawals or balance checks. A maximum charge of Rs 23 per transaction will be levied for every ATM transaction after the free limit. A separate tax will be levied on this. Till now, this fee was Rs. 21.
  • Under the new rules, if you withdraw money from an ATM of another bank, you will also be charged for services like checking balance, issuing mini statement and changing PIN. The RBI has also increased the interchange fee by Rs 2.
  • Apart from this, in metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai, customers can avail free ATM withdrawal facility three times in a month. Similarly, in non-metro cities, this limit is five times. In those cities, customers can avail free ATM withdrawal facility five times in a month. Many banks, including State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and IndusInd Bank, have implemented this rule for their customers from May 1.
  • Also, as per the new rules, account holders who maintain an average monthly balance of more than Rs 1 lakh in their bank accounts will get the benefit of unlimited free transactions from both SBI and other bank ATMs. As a result, all metro or non-metro customers can now make 5 free transactions from SBI ATMs and 10 free transactions from other bank ATMs every month. Customers who maintain an average monthly balance between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 50,000 will get 5 free transactions at other bank ATMs.
