WhatsApp is soon going to add an ‘in-app birthday reminder’ feature, which will alert you as soon as your friend’s birthday is approaching.
How This ‘Birthday Reminder’ Feature will Work?
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a website that tracks all new WhatsApp updates, this feature was recently seen in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. There will be a special section or list within the app itself, where you will see a list of all your contacts whose birthdays are coming up. Whenever it is the birthday of one of your friends, WhatsApp will send you a notification within the app to inform you about it.
Which Data will Company Use?
WhatsApp recently asked users for their date of birth to comply with government regulations and age verification in some countries. Now the company can use the same data to send birthday reminders to users. However, this new feature of WhatsApp will only work for those contacts who have given their date of birth on WhatsApp. Those who have not shared their date of birth will not appear in this list.
What will be it’s Privacy Control Setting?
This new feature of WhatsApp is currently in the development stage and has not been released to general users or beta testers yet.
