To make life easier for Indians, Google has launched a new digital credit card ‘Flex by Google Pay’. It is based on the RuPay network and is fully integrated into the Google Pay app. The first product under this brand, the ‘Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card’, has been launched in partnership with Axis Bank and will be available directly from the Google Pay app.
What is “Flex by Google Pay”?
Google’s blog post says that there are currently only about 50 million credit card users in India. Flex by Google Pay is designed to address this gap, making credit accessible to more people in an easy and digital way. In simple terms, Flex is a UPI-powered, digital co-branded credit card that resides entirely within the Google Pay app. Users can apply for the card in minutes within the app. There is no need for any physical documents or paperwork. Once approved, the card can be used immediately.
Since it is based on the RuPay network, payments made from Flex cards will be accepted like normal UPI transactions. This means users can easily use it online and offline and can be easily used by merchants accepting millions of rupees.
Rewards and Easy Repayment
Google Pay and Axis Bank are also offering a rewards system with this card. Users will get stars on every transaction. Each star is worth Rs. 1. These Stars can be redeemed instantly on any subsequent transaction. Apart from this, it will also have flexible repayment options like a traditional credit card.Users can pay the entire bill in one go or convert it into EMI if they wish.
Get Full Control Within the App
With the Flex by Google Pay card, users will get a number of in-app controls, such as setting transaction limits, blocking or unblocking the card, resetting the PIN, etc. Flex by Google Pay has already launched. The company says it will be made available to more users in the coming months.This new card will further strengthen India’s digital payment system and make credit accessible to the masses.
