According to various reports, WhatsApp is testing a new ‘After Reading’ disappearing message mode. Now, the feature has been made available to iPhone beta users. This new feature is completely different from the existing disappearing messages on WhatsApp and its working style is also very different.
‘After Reading’ Option in WhatsApp
WhatsApp is going to add another layer of privacy on disappearing messages through this new ‘After reading’ option. According to the new option, while setting the message timer, users can choose the option to ‘disappear immediately after reading’. Apart from this, users will also get the opportunity to set the time like 5 minutes, 1 hour and now 12 hours. If no one reads your message, it will be automatically deleted after 24 hours. The biggest feature of this feature is that its timer will start when the other person sees or reads the message. This feature can be used in private chats as well as group chats. This will not only increase the user’s security and privacy, but will also be very helpful in saving phone storage.
How is This ‘After Reading’ Different from the Previous ‘Disappearing Messages’ Feature?
The current disappearing message option on WhatsApp allows users to set a time limit of 24 hours, 7 days, and 90 days. But that time limit starts as soon as the message is sent, whether the recipient reads it or not. But in the new ‘After Reading’ feature, the timer will only start after the message is read.
When will this New ‘After Reading’ Feature Arrive?
WhatsApp has already rolled out this feature to iPhone beta testers. It will soon start testing for Android users as well. It is expected to be launched for all general users in the next few weeks.
