Often, on a rainy day or while washing the bike, water accidentally gets into the bike’s fuel tank. Due to this, the bike may have difficulty starting and the engine may also malfunction. There is no need to panic in such a situation. This can be resolved with some easy steps. Go through this article and know what you can do if water enters the fuel tank of your bike.
What to Do if Water Enters the Fuel Tank of Your Bike?
- Empty the petrol tank: If the fuel tank has water in it, then the tank should be completely emptied first. This will facilitate the separation of water and petrol and will save the engine from damage.
- Use a bottle to drain the petrol: To drain the petrol from the tank, use a clean and dry bottle and slowly drain all the petrol into the bottle, so that the tank is completely empty.
- Let the empty tank dry for a while: When the fuel tank is empty, leave it open for a while so that the wet parts of the tank dry out and the water dries out completely.
- Separate water and petrol: Do not shake the petrol and water mixture in the bottle for a while. After some time, both will appear in separate layers, with water at the bottom and petrol at the top.
- Separate the water: When the water and petrol separate, carefully drain the water.
Can the Leftover Petrol be Reused?
After separating the water, the leftover petrol can be put back into the fuel tank. If you suspect that there is still water in the tank or the bike still won’t start, be sure to have it checked by a mechanic.
