No More Free Backups for WhatsApp Chats! Know Details

Popular messaging platform WhatsApp is set to under go a major change in terms of storage. While you currently have to rely on Google Drive or iCloud to back up your chats, WhatsApp is preparing to introduce its own dedicated cloud storage soon. According to a recent report, along with Android, iPhone users can also take advantage of this new service.

No More Free Backups for WhatsApp Chats!

According to initial reports, WhatsApp will provide up to 2 GB of free cloud storage to all users. If anyone needs more storage than this, then there will be a paid plan for them. WhatsApp may offer 50 GB of storage for just Rs 95 per month. For users with higher needs, the company will also bring a bigger plan of up to 1 TB.

Big Benefits for iPhone Users

Usually, Apple gives its users only 5 GB of free iCloud storage. This includes photos, documents, app data, and phone backups. In such a situation, this storage quickly fills up due to large chat backups of WhatsApp. As a result, users have to pay money to buy more storage. With the arrival of WhatsApp’s own cloud, users will be spared from these additional costs.

Completely Secure and End-to-end Encrypted

This cloud will be completely secure in terms of security. All chat backups stored in the WhatsApp cloud will be ‘end-to-end encrypted’. iCloud has this security option, which users have to turn on. But in WhatsApp Cloud, it will be on by default and there will be no option to turn it off. This backup can be further secured with a passkey, password or encryption key.

When it will Launch?

The company is currently working on this feature and its public testing has not started. So it is expected that it may take a few more weeks for the service to be available to all users.
